I recently stumbled upon the new clothing brand, Doen. How beautiful are those dresses? I especially love the one above. She looks so graceful.

The brand was founded by two sisters, and they have a great mission. “We observed how atypical it is to see women at the helm of fashion brands — although women are largely the ones designing, purchasing and wearing the clothing,” they said, and they want to change that. “We support women in the workforce in all aspects of our organization, supply chain and community.”

Two thumbs up.

  1. Oh my goodness, thank you so much for posting! I think that those dresses are so lovely, but when I went to Doen’s site, I found the most amazing soft, white, comfy-yet-feminine-modern-but-not-too-fancy looking dress (http://shopdoen.com/collections/dresses/products/provence-embroidered-voile-dress?variant=8952270981 , if anyone wants to check it out :)

It’s hard sometimes to find brands out-of-the-trodden path, so I so appreciate you posting stuff like this! Especially because the company’s mission is so rad.

  3. Sara says...

I wish a company that aims to empower women in the industry would also offer clothing to fit most women. The clothing is so beautiful, I’m sorry to miss out :(

  4. Jane says...

Thank you! ….for sharing another clothing website that only goes up until a size 10.

  5. Dottie Louise says...

Their clothing is so beautiful and elegant! My favorites are the Antibes Embroidered Voile Top and both of the Whipstitch Sweaters – so lovely! Not to mention the photography is stunning!

thank you for the feature Joanna!!! xo DÔEN collective

  7. I will definitely be buying something from them .. I am saying goodbye to the cold harsh winters of NY State and moving South. Where light pretty dresses will fill my closet instead of boots and sweaters :)
    Good timing, Joanna !

  8. I love everything about this brand.

    They are beautiful clothes!

It’s so disappointing to see these beautiful things but not be able to purchase because I am a size 12/14. I wish this company, as well as other woman owned fashion start ups, would help to change restrictive sizes.
I know there are difficulties with samples, stock, etc. that come up with sizing.

But this needs to be part of the conversation if we are talking about women supporting women in fashion.

      Ditto this!!

    • Jodie says...

      Yes!!!

    • exactly

    • Alexia says...

Agreed. The clothing also seems to run small too- the model in the photo in 5’8″ or so and wearing a medium. She is very small- definitely smaller than me (we’re around the same height) and a small/medium is my normal size!

  12. Natalie says...

SO 70’s chic! Thanks for sharing.

  13. Just clicked on their link. Those dresses and the photography are amazing. I hadn’t heard of this brand before, so thank you for sharing.

Their style of dresses reminds me of Little House on the Prairie…but in a grown up and chic kind of way :)

  17. Love that top dress!

  18. Coco says...

OBSESSED! I can’t wait for the Provence Embroidered Voile Dress to be back in stock. Also, it’s such a small world because my sister is friends with the model in these photos.

  19. Such a pretty line of clothing. I also love the dresses (specifically the wrap dress). They are so romantic and effortless in their design.

I love the top dress, but the price is beyond my budget. I’ve never spent $175 on any piece of clothing or pair of shoes in my life! While I admire their mission, it would be nice if their prices were within reason. I make most of my dresses, but I will buy a dress if the fabric is something I’m not likely to find in a fabric store.

  21. Oh no, I want EVERYTHING! :-X
I just preordered the dress in the first photo and am going to have to control myself when the other styles come back in stock next month. Thanks for sharing :-)

These are beautiful. And I agree: not all women are mothers and (over here!) we aren’t all young either. Still, that cream tunic…these are the sort of clothes women actually want to wear. Repeat after me…simple, please.

  23. So pretty and elegant <3

  24. This is a lovely brand with beautiful design and great philosophy…

  25. Jillian says...

Oh, I just saw this brand written about in the New York Times. They look lovely!

  26. I’m loving this new brand too! The dresses are so beautiful and they have a cute kids poncho!

  27. Mo says...

Uh oh, new obsession. Will be checking back frequently! Thanks for sharing, as always.

  28. That dress is so stunning…

  29. Jessica says...

Very pretty! But too expensive :(

  30. Lynne says...

Very beautiful clothes however take a look at the care instructions. It appears that most of their items are ONLY DRY CLEAN or SPOT CLEAN! How costly and impractical is that? Granted some are 100% silk but others are 100% cotton. I accept dry cleaning for specialty fabrics and especially for event type clothing but not for everyday wear. I believe their clothing line is meant for more than an occasional wear; their website shows some of the models rolling around with babies or walking through fields. No matter how lovely a piece of clothing might be, the care most be affordable and practical, otherwise I am not buying it.

    • Margaret says...

My thoughts exactly. I’m going to wear that poncho camping with my kids, and then dry clean it?

    • Darcy says...

Lovely photos. Yet impractical is a deal breaker. Dry cleaning is one way of being impractical, not accommodating for bra straps is another. (Not accommodating bra straps hints at youth worship, or skinniness obsession. Or both.) Nice setting + photos though.

  31. Their stuff is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!

  32. Thank you for introducing us to conscious brands!
I love that the brand has a purpose:
    – “WE SUPPORT WOMEN IN THE WORKFORCE IN ALL ASPECTS OF OUR ORGANIZATION, SUPPLY CHAIN, AND COMMUNITY”.
    – “WE USE DOMESTIC PRODUCTION WHEREVER POSSIBLE, AND CAREFULLY SELECTED OVERSEAS MANUFACTURES”
    – “WHETHER IN CALIFORNIA, INDIA OR PERU, OUR PRODUCTION PARTNERS SHARE OUR COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE AND UNDERSTAND OUR MISSION TO DECREASE THE GENDER GAP AT EVERY POINT IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN”
    – “AT PRESENT, EVERY OVERSEAS FACTORY WE WORK WITH HAS A FEMALE OWNER OR CO-OWNER”

  33. Emma says...

I LOVE being introduced to new brands like this. Thanks! Any others (commenters?) have suggestions? I am looking for brands that produce ethically and with high quality materials. Suggestions welcome!!!

stylesaint.com is a great one that focuses on ethically produced and sustainable fabrics (also women owned).

I went to order that top (Darjeeling) and first dress above and sold out! Nooooo!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

Thanks JT! The women who run the brand told us they are going to be restocking very soon, and also featuring some new colors. Stay tuned!

  35. Patricia says...

That white dress is so lovely, but the way it is lifting in the breeze tells me it’s not practical for a mom who has a thousand other things on her mind when she’s out with her kids. I would have thought that two women making dresses would have considered that. No thanks.

    • mae says...

It could be worn as a tunic with leggings so you don’t have to worry about exposing more than you’d like :)

Also not every woman is a mom, and not every mom (myself included) wants only kid-friendly clothes. Sometimes it’s nice to dress up! I don’t think it’s fair to limit the brand to designing with moms in mind just because it’s run by women.

  36. Alice Quin says...

Thanks for this post! Love discovering new small brands especially owned by woman.

  37. that white dress is so beautiful! reminds me of the beach and summer
