Who’s Your Doppelganger?

Who's Your Doppelganger?

Do you have a celebrity look-a-like? Through the years, I’ve gotten Amanda Peet, Hilary Swank and (from ages ago) figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. Alex has ranged from a young Warren Beatty to Seth Rogan.

“There is only so much genetic diversity to go around,” said Michael Sheehan, an assistant professor of neurobiology and behavior at Cornell University. “If you shuffle that deck of cards so many times, at some point, you get the same hand dealt to you twice.”

So, at dinner on Saturday night, we were in hysterics while talking about the boys: We’ve always thought that Toby resembles English model Agyness Deyn, and Alex brought up that Anton looks like a teeny tiny Michelle Williams. Can you see it? Right down to the hair flip! I’m still laughing.

Do you look like anyone? Do your little ones? I’d love to hear…

P.S. Anton’s first doppelganger and accidental twins.

  1. Oh my goodness Joanna, this is hilarious! They actually look so much alike. Anton and Michelle’s lips are even identical. Too good, thanks for sharing. Hehe. xo

  2. Julie says...

I think your Anton looks a bit like Carey Mulligan :)

  3. Laura C says...

    Haha, this is hilarious Jo.
Twuenty years ago or so I got told I was like Neve Campbell. Later when I moved to Italy I got told I looked very like Vanessa Incontrada.
Although I’ve always thought that Vanessa Incontrada looke like my sister a lot, actually!
    Xoxo

  4. Riley says...

People consistently tell me that I look (and talk) like a young Diane Keaton. I can only hope I age as gracefully as she has — she just keeps getting better!

  5. I always get Rashida Jones and my husband gets Chris O’Dowd. Not too shabby!

  6. I get Alexa Chung, Dakota Johnson, or Zooey Deschanel a lot. I see Dakota Johnson the most. I’m reading these all and desperately wishing I could see folks’ faces, so those of you who are curious yourselves, Google my name and see for yourself! -Sophi Scarnewman

    • Jenny Lewis!

    • freya says...

aziz’ girlfriend in master of none!

  7. Alexandra Marie says...

I got Sigourney Weaver circa Ghostbusters once. Definitely Soleil Moon Frye circa Punky Brewster, and Pat Benatar. Once I tried one of those celebrity look-like apps and they told me I looked like Tim Curry….

  8. Abby says...

I never get any famous celebrities but the 4 years I lived in New York I got told at least 20 times (all by men- creepy) that I looked like a certain porn star that I had no clue who it was! Even had men come ask to take their picture with me on the street a few times (once a man said something to me on the street that was so inappropriate- I ran away!)! CRAZY. All the pictures I’ve seen of her she wears such heavy eye makeup and I never do so I don’t really see the resemblance. The girls name is Sasha Grey- she was in Entourage too for an episode I think. So random and I hate it! I’ve only heard that in NYC though (Hamptons once)- never anywhere else!

  9. Sydney says...

I have gotten Maggie Grace and Taylor Swift several times and one friend insists that I look like a young version of Skylar from Breaking Bad.

However the most hilarious (and insulting) comparison came from an extremely intoxicated guy at a bar who walked by and told me I looked like Gary Busey (but a hot lady Gary Busey he insisted). He then proceeded to look over at my half Chinese boyfriend and say “and look here’s Keanu Reeves, we’ve got the cast of Point Break!”

  10. Eileen says...

I look like like every other Asian woman anyone has ever seen. The end.

  11. Jennifer D. says...

I get Kathy Bates….CONSTANTLY! Not particularly insulting but for the nearly 40 year age difference.

  12. Linda says...

I don’t get told that I look like a celebrity very often, but when I do, people are very adamant about the resemblance, which I think is really funny. I’ve been told Mary Louise Parker, Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, and Madeline Stowe.

  13. Alice says...

When I was much younger I got Sharon Stone a lot. In later years, Cate Blanchett, which I don’t see but I LOVE. Always cheers up a day.
    My hubs gets Gregory Peck.

    Love Anton’s!! It’s perfect.

  14. Anie schafer says...

I look like everyone. Literally half of my errands include a “you look like my…” I am just hopeful that they like(d) the person I remind them of. Additionally, I have been told I would be good as an extra in movies, though I can’t quite remember why.

  15. Sharol says...

Growing up I was often compared to Audrey Hepburn ( I’ve always loved that!) When I was in high school I was told I looked like Fiona Apple. Just a couple of years ago I was told I looked like Ginger Zee. I had to look her up because I didn’t know who she was.

  16. Cecilia says...

Susan Sarandon. I get told at least once a week. In different countries even people have told me. Ever since I was in my early 20’s until now. It’s quite the compliment- she is awesome in so many ways afterall!

  17. Maura says...

Kristin Bell! I’m so flattered every time I hear it because I just love her. Plus, she shares my love for sloths – can’t say that very often ;)

  18. Kate says...

Oh I just love your boys. And there are definitely some similar facial features happening there!

When I was a teenager, I was constantly told that I looked like Molly Ringwald, which I think was based completely on her mouth. We have similar smiles, and I also have full lips.

  19. Both of those comparisons are so adorable and hilarious. When I was younger I used to get Julia Roberts and then later heard Jessica Alba and Reese Witherspoon a lot. My baby girl has recently been compared to Christina Ricci which made me laugh. She’s only 16 months old.
This also reminds me of Anthony on Sex and the City. He always wants to know who would play someone in a movie. Like when Charlotte tries to set him up with Stanford and she says Ed Harris would play him. “More like Ed I-have-no-hair-ris!” Lol!

  20. ceciel says...

Ha! I started reading Cup Of Jo because a *new friend at a girls’ night said I looked like you, Joanna. Lucky me :) (cause of the looks thing AND my favorite daily read!)

  21. Kirsten W. says...

So funny! I actually don’t remember ever being told that I look like a celebrity. Is that weird?

My husband, however, is a dead ringer for a skinny Vin Diesel. It’s freaky.

  22. Hilarious — your boys pictures are spot on for Williams and Deyn!

  23. Melissa says...

Michelle Williams is my doppelgänger!! We’ve had the same hair for years.

  24. Tina C. says...

I’ve always been told I look like a darker haired Leelee Sobieski. I had to look her up years ago because I’d never heard of her, but when I did I could absolutely see the resemblance.

  25. Caz says...

I’ve been told I look like Christina Applegate a few times, ha! I dressed as Veronica Corningstone for a fancy dress party once and I got so many comments!

  26. Valerie says...

I used to get Hayden Panettiere pretty frequently

  27. Vanessa says...

You recently posted an Instagram picture of Anton and I thought he started to look like Toby.

  28. Heidi says...

I’m a less graceful Gwyneth Paltrow and my husband is a much sexier Edward Snowden.

  29. Lauren says...

I still think Anton looks like a teeny tiny Bernie Sanders, but the Michelle Williams comparison is pretty great!

I get Natalie Portman a lot, and someone once even said Angelina Jolie. I was like, yes, I’ll take it!!

  30. suva says...

I was often told I looked like Cameron Diaz, that I don’t agree. My husband would prefer Cate Blanchett look much more :))

  31. mrsmahersbar says...

Also, I think you look like Liv Tyler and Alexa Chung’s love child!

  32. HA! Love this! I don’t have any celeb lookalikes. My husband used to have longer hair, and looked exactly like zombie Nick Hoult in Warm Bodies… he even wore the maroon hoodie all the time. And in college he went through a really skinny phase and got compared to Requiem for a Dream era Leto, and the singer from All American Rejects. He also has an identical twin, so that guy just has lookalikes left and right.

  33. Nikki says...

Juliana margulies and Minnie driver. Read curly dark hair, round face and not so perfect nose but two women I admire immensely!

  34. Kate says...

Anton and Toby’s doppelgangers are so spot-on! Love it.

I’ve gotten Drew Barrymore a few times – I think we have similar smiles, but not much else. :)

The other one I’ve gotten is Rose Leslie (Ygritte in Game of Thrones), but I think that’s even more off-base. Rose has such a beautifully angular face and I’m all cheeks and dimples.

I totally see Jane Birkin for you! Hilary Swank, not so much … but I put a lot of emphasis on coloring.

  35. mrsmahersbar says...

I get Kate Hudson a lot, and Anna Faris even more often. I’ll take Anna Faris if it means Chris Pratt will find me attractive, ha!

  36. Erin says...

Reese Witherspoon, but specifically when she played June Carter in Walk the Line. And Katy Perry once, while waiting in line at Sephora 😊

  37. Kim says...

My daughter gets Audrey Hepburn a lot, which I love A LOT because she is so beautiful inside-and-out.

  38. omg these are spot on, so funny!!

And Mindy Kaling is mine, especially when I have my glasses on! And I had her Kelly Kapoor bob for a while too.

  39. Dawn says...

I don’t really have a famous doppelgänger but my son always gets told he looks like Taylor Lautner by the girls at school (it started all the way back with the Shark Boy Lava Girl movie!). The only other person in our family that favors anyone is my Dad. He is a dead ringer for Stan Lee of Marvel Comics fame- so much that when we walked around in NYC on holiday, he stopped people in their tracks and they would make comments. Needless to say, my son is stoked about that and its a running joke amongst my siblings that we have a famous Dad :)

  40. I’ve been told Kirsten Dunst and Bryce Dallas Howard. I think I look more like the latter, if either! Once, when I was in high school, this guy working at used book store said, “You look just like Kirsten Dunst! Will you sign my friend’s year book?” I said sure and signed my name. He was dismayed when he looked at it and said, “You were supposed to sign it Kirsten Dunst!” Oh. High school!

  41. I’ve always been told that I look like Cara Delvigne when I fill in my eyebrows, and Abigale Breslin when I do my eyeliner dramatically, but without makeup I’ve never really been compared to a celebrity! I definitely see the resemblance between you and Amanda Peet, haha!

  42. Alyssa says...

    Julieanne Moore 😀

  43. Oh, those pictures of the boys are too cute/funny. And so true! “Teeny tiny Michelle Williams,” hahaha.

While I had bangs I always got Zooey Deschanel, but as soon as I grew them out, zip. (Even though our hair is the only link between us, we do seem to be on a similar hair schedule – every time I grow or cut my bangs, she does too! Spooky.)

  44. Sarah says...

One time at a bar, an older couple stopped my husband for a photo because they thought he was “that blond guy from MTV.” After a few minutes of back and forth and google imaging, we figured out that they meant Spencer Pratt (from The Hills). I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life, I could barely breathe! I never saw it until they said it, but they were absolutely right! Thankfully their personalities couldn’t be more different :)

    • Wholeheartedly agree.

    • Erin says...

      Um, YES! Agree!!

    • elisa says...

      YES!!! So much so!

  45. Katie says...

Someone once told me I looked like Anna Kournikova. As much as I want to believe him, I think he was just hitting on me ;)

  46. Sascha says...

My weirdest comment was from my dental hygienist after she’d strapped a big gas mask across my face. She said I looked like Jennifer Garner. I thought it was strange! Mostly I was told I looked a lot like Hermione Granger when I was in high school. This was before Emma Watson became older and gorgeous haha. I don’t usually comment but I thought it a good time to tell you that I always associate you with the singer Feist? I don’t know why exactly. I laughed hard at Antons doppelgänger. I think you’re so right.

  47. Laura says...

Can mine be an animated character? Because I swear, Riley, the character of the girl from Inside Out, has got to be closest Doppelgaenger I’ve EVER had.

  48. Tyler says...

i used to get Allison Hannigan, but not so much anymore. My husband gets Ricky Martin, and my best friend looks exactly like Leslie Mann!

  49. yael steren says...

I always get Sarah Jessica Parker, which I love because she is a style icon and I’m a style blogger!!! xx yael

    http://www.yaelsteren.com/blog/

  50. I was once told that I look like Mary from 7th Heaven (young and awkward Jessica Biel) but sound like Peggy from King of the Hill.

It was a pretty crushing blow.

  51. Lana says...

I wish there was a way everyone could have posted selfies along with their comments! I’ve never thought about who my kids look like, but daaaaaamn, Toby’s a dead ringer!
I get Helen Hunt. My husband gets George Clooney in Syriana. Hahahaha!

  52. I always thought I look kind of like Caroline (of Cup o’ Jo fame). I wrote a semi-stalkerish post about it here: https://laurazstudios.wordpress.com/2015/03/20/home-inspiration/
(in my defense, I usually only look up Caroline’s blog/insta when there are no new Jo posts to read…)
I’ve also always thought of Katie Holmes and maybe Selena Gomez, but these are all in my own head. You can see a pic of me here: https://www.facebook.com/Laura-Z-Studios-337883316413761/

  53. Ever since I saw her in West Side Story (in 6th grade), I actively emulated the late actress, Natalie Wood. (My poor mother- so much eyeliner, so young!)

However, when I lived in NYC, one of my roomies suggested I look like Aubrey Plaza. Once I started watching Parks and Rec, I started sharing photos of Andy and April because my fiance looks like Andy Dwyer- the feedback was hilarious!

  54. I’ve always thought you looked like Hilary Swank! :)

  55. Emily says...

Your boys are so PRETTY, Joanna! Love the side by side comparisons– this is great.

  56. Stephanie says...

    <3 <3 <3

  57. kadcat says...

I wish I could see all of the doppelgangers in the comments! :)
People say that I look like Uma Thurman, especially when I have my hair pulled back (going back for ten or so years!)…not a comparison I mind at all!

  58. I’ve never really been told anyone in particular…I was told Keira Knightley at times. I totally see Amanda Peet and Hilary Swank, both are beautiful!!

    Allison http://allisons-eye.com/

  59. Sara says...

Shaileen Woodley! I’ve had multiple people say that since she cut her hair short.

  60. Julia says...

My husband once told me that I was a Gwyneth Paltrow Type and my best friend finds that I look like Tilda Swinton.
When I studied abroad in Canada for a year, several people I met would tell me that they knew someone who looked EXACTLY like me (that scared me a bit, especially since I never got the chance to actually meet those Doppelgaengers). I find it rather unpleasant to hear : “Hey, you look like a girl I now”. It is so much more fun to hear: “A friend of mine looks like you.” Don’t you feel similar?

    • Julia says...

So the consequence should be: “Hey, Gwyneth Paltrow looks absolutely like you!” :-)

  61. Tee says...

I used to get Gwyneth Paltrow a lot (back in the late 90s) or the lead singer from The Cardigans. Now I mostly just have people say ‘you look Swedish’. I’ll take it. I am of Swedish descent, so, well, um, great!

  62. My husband looks just like Vincent Van Gogh. One Halloween he just held a fancy picture frame around his face.

    • Tee says...

      This made me laugh. 😀

  63. Hannah says...

I always get Liv Tyler! I hope I look a little bit like her on my best day. It would be so lovely to meet her one day and see if everyone is right.

  64. Twyla says...

I get Catherine Heigl quite a lot, which is super flattering, and once a very stylish, attractive man told me I looked like Seven of Nine from Star Trek – which from him I took as a huge compliment.

  65. My girls were thought to be twins when one was a baby and the other a toddler [2.5 year age gap]. One lady asked if they were twins, in her defence we do live in a time when science can provide test tube twins at different times, so I decided the question wasn’t all that weird.
As the girls mature there are days when they’ve looked Chrissie Amphlett and the eldest reminds me of Alyssa Milano.
When I was growing up people thought I was Wednesday Addams [Ricci], Helena Bonham Carter [but only when I was wearing a winter hat].

  66. I get told atleast twice a week that I look like Katy Perry. Seriously! My Older Sister and I get told a lot that we remind people of Katy. Not a bad thing, because she’s gorgeous!

Years back when the Twilight movies came out a lot of people told me I reminded them of Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan. I guess my long brown hair and outfit choices didn’t help that HA!

    http://www.makeupandmodifieds.com

  67. ruby says...

I’ve been told probably since high school I look like Reese Witherspoon. I once dyed my hair and was told I looked like Reese on “walk the line” movie. Recently I was told I look like a young version of Madonna …. I honestly do not see the resemblance. I’m not trying to put myself down, but I do not think I’m gorgeous… like Reese is. look me up on instagram if you are curious “tgrsndrgns”

  68. Lindsay says...

I have one of those faces, and get told often…my favorite was being told I looked exactly like a combination of jewel and Reese Witherspoon. One guy even did a mix of 3: Meg Ryan/ Alicia sylverstone/ Drew Barrymore. I think I look like Natasha kinski a little.

  69. Dr. Crusher on Star Trek.
I get that all the time. The first time I was told I looked like a character on Star Trek I was disconcerted. When I saw her I felt a bit better. At least she was human.

  70. Maire says...

I’ve been told a young Geena Davis as well as a young Mary Steenburgen. And also, super randomly, Giada de Laurentis.

  71. Kate says...

Elizabeth Perkins (From the movie “Big”, and the TV show “Weeds”).

People have been telling me this since high school (I’m in my mid-30s now), and never really believed it…but in 2009, I actually got a photo with Elizabeth! I was living in LA at the time, and lucky enough to attend a Golden Globes/Showtime party (or something like that) and she was there. While the group I was with kept staring at Elizabeth, exclaiming “you look like her!”…at the time same, Elizabeth and her group of people were staring back at us! (maybe because we were staring?)

With the help of some champagne courage, as she was exiting the party, I walked up to Elizabeth to ask for a photo with the reason “all my friends say I look like you.” To my surprise, she responded “YOU DO! Let’s take a pic!” She directed me NOT to smile, as so you can really see the comparison…but of course, I giggled. That said, our pic together still works and shows our eerie similarities. If you want to see the pic, I’d be happy to send it to you! :)

And funny enough…someone just told me today on Facebook I look like her!

  72. Kelcey says...

Ever since I got straight across bangs cut 7 or 8 years ago, I get Zooey Deschanel from pretty much everyone. My partner is kind of a combination of two of my favorite musicians– Glen Hansard and Matt Berninger (of The National). I realized it about a year into our relationship, and it’s always tickled me since!

  73. Courtney says...

I always get Lea Michele. I teach middle school and all of the kids are obsessed with the fact that I look identical to her (Glee and Scream Queen fans totally). This random kid came up to my in the hall once and told me she wished I was her teacher because I look just like Lea Michele. I said, “You know I’m not REALLY her right? Like being in my class won’t make me her?” I don’t think they care.

  74. Naomi says...

Joanna, I’ve always thought you were a dead ringer for Shelagh Turner aka Sister Bernadette played by Laura Main from the PBS show Call the Midwife. You have to check it out!

  75. I’ve been told I look like Amanda Seyfried, especially in Mamma Mia. I can see it in that character, but not so much anything else (except from certain angles, maybe). I used to get Tara Reid sometimes but it was during her “troubled” phase so I never really took it as a compliment. They’d always follow it up with “you know, when she was younger!” but still…

  76. Court says...

These are all funny! The three doppelgangers I get likened to most often are a hoot because none of them looks anything like each other–so how can I look like all of them? Taylor Swift, Drew Barrymore, and Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones.

  77. erin says...

mine is barbra streisand. i remember the first time i heard that, I was like whhaaattttt uh nooo… but then a friend told me to take it as a compliment, and to look at the younger version of her. and turns out my mom always got that compliment too!

  78. Kim Q says...

I don’t get look comparisons, but I’ve been told so many times that I sound just like Winona Ryder. Mind you, this happened more frequently when Winona Ryder was more visible. I don’t hear it, but then you never really hear what your own voice sounds like to others.

  79. Betsie says...

I used to frequently be told I looked like… wait for it… Tobey Maguire. Especially Spider Man era Tobey Maguire. Also, a close friend always tells me I look like Elijah Wood. Thanks???

  80. I’ve gotten Nancy Kerrigan too!! Maybe we’re each other’s doppelgangers ;p
Also the Michelle Williams/Anton comparison is spot on!
    -E

  81. Luli says...

I always thought Toby looks like Dakota Johnson, from Fifty Shades of Grey. People used to tell me I looked like Penelope Cruz all the time, but not anymore haha. I think she must have aged better than me.

  82. My husband hilariously looks just like a real life version of Woody from Toy Story! I used to get Keira Knightley a lot, but it hasn’t happened in awhile. It was always the best compliment and would make my day!

  83. Jessica says...

My boyfriend looks exactly like Jason Statham. We get stopped easily once a week with people telling him that. People also tell him he looks really familiar and I always wants to shout “it’s because he looks like a movie star!” But my boyfriend won’t let me.
One time I got told I looked like Jessica Biel, which was super flattering but absolutely not true. Lol!

  84. Sophie says...

While watching Downton Abbey the other night it hit me who you look like. You could be Elizabeth McGovern’s daughter!
Also, Anton looks a lot like Rosamunde Pike from Gone Girl. She is beautiful and so is he.

  85. Kelsey says...

Rory Gilmore. I cut my hair short around the same time the actress did on the show and one of my professors asked if I did it on purpose! I did not, for the record, haha.

  86. I’m often told that I look like Emma Watson (or more often, people tell me I look like “Hermione,” her bookish badass character in Harry Potter). To me, there is no higher compliment, since I love and respect both Emma and Hermione as smart, beautiful feminists. :)

  87. Irene says...

Eva Green – the Bond girl.

    From the neck up: maybe!
From the neck down: definitely not :P

  88. Lauren E. says...

Those pictures of your boys! I’m dying. So cute.

I get Amanda Seyfried consistently but I think it’s just because I am pasty white and have super big eyes. But whatever, I’ll take it!

  89. Molly says...

    – My boyfriend gets Dawson (James Van Der Beek) from Dawson’s creek a lot (even though he likes to think Ryan Gosling)
    – My cousin looks IDENTICAL to Reese Witherspoon, she often gets asked if she really is Reese.
    – I’ve been told I look like a bunch of different people including Jessica Alba (a compliment, but I am super pale, so I don’t see that), Hilary Duff and my grandmother thinks Grace Kelly (i wish!)

    • Molly says...

Too bad we all can’t upload a pic and have everyone vote! That would be so fun! I am sure there’s an app for that, but still :)

  90. Gina says...

Toby and Agyness Deyn… uncanny & hysterical! I always get Julie Delpy and Sarah Chalke.

  91. Annie says...

I’ve gotten a lot of random ones: Brittany Murphy, Amy Brenneman, Ashley Judd… all are flattering but I don’t think they’re very accurate! The only one I’ve gotten that’s actually close is Jenna Fischer (Pam from The Office). I’ll take it! I’ve always thought my husband looks like Tony Hawk. :)

  92. About once every couple of years, just about the time Ive forgotten the last time, someone tells me I look like Julia Roberts. I don’t see it. But it has happened again and again. I’ll take it!

  93. Haha I love things like this! I totally see both Anton and Toby in those women :)
I have yet to find someone who I really think is my doppleganger, but people I have gotten are Taylor Swift, Vera Farmiga, Carolyn Besette-Kennedy and Amanda Schull (the main girl from Center Stage, haha)

  94. Klara says...

Oh and Caroline has a little bit of Katie Holmes going on!

  95. One day at whole foods, a cashier told me, “I’m sure you get this ALL the time…” And I paused wondering what she was going to say, “…you know, that you look just like Melissa Joan Hart!”

I have never before, or since been told that! And honestly all we have in common is we are pasty-white females.

Otherwise, I like to think I resemble Kate Winslet, but no one has ever suggested it =P

  96. Tracy says...

My daughter is 4. Very often strangers tell me she looks like Drew Barrymore from ET. And she so so does!!

  97. Klara says...

Actress Nora-Jane Noone, especially what she looked like in “The Magdalene Sisters”. Once I replaced my Facebook profile picture with her close-up from the movie poster and everybody fell for it, ha!

  98. I’m told constantly that I look like Kirsten Dunst or Claire Daines. I’ve also gotten Gwenyth Paltrow. I take them all as compliments!

  99. Tracy says...

I always get Julian Moore or a young Diane Keaton. Its funny to me bc I think I look nothing like them.

  100. Anna says...

At the height of her popularity, people used to stop me all the time and tell me I looked like Rachael Ray. My hair is a lot shorter now so I don’t hear it as often, but even my dad would say it! My husband teaches high school and his students tell him he looks like a “white Drake.” He had no idea who that was, haha!

  101. Kate says...

I used to get Leelee Sobieski a lot when she was doing more movies, and a couple of years ago a girl scanning my groceries did a visible double-take when I moved forward in line and then shyly told me she had really thought I was Jennifer Lawrence for a second.

  102. I’ve never been told I look like anyone, but I often get told “you look familiar.” Haha! My husband says it must be because I’m always smiling and look friendly.

Maybe I’ll get the doppelganger app just for kicks!

And the boys have some beautiful doppelgangers! ;)

    Lendy
    http://www.twoplusluna.com

  103. i couldn’t put my finger on why toby looked so so so familiar, even when he was a little baby, and this is exactly it!!! he IS the mini, male agyness deyn. hilarious! :)

    hammyta.wordpress.com

  104. I have been told all the time since I was about 16 that I look like Meryl Streep. Of course, it would have to be her daughter since she is 20 years older than me!

  105. Juliana says...

I’ve been told I look like Audrey Hepburn (I wish!), Vivien Leigh & Rooney Mara. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that I have small features & a love for micro bangs!

  106. I’ve been told that I look like Tiffani Amber Theissen probably 4,000 times. I’ve recently been told multiple times a week that I look like Jenna Bush. I’m not quite sure I see either one, but I take them both as compliments!

  107. Ha! The boys totally do look like them! That’s hilarious.
I don’t know that I do have a doppleganger. I don’t even look like anyone in my family, at least not in the way that my niece looks exactly like my sister, or my brother looks (and sounds) just like my dad.

    Kristi | Be Loverly

  108. Charli says...

Apparently I look like Miley Cyrus, according to 3 people in the last year. When I was 13 people said I looked like Alicia Silverstone, which was fine by me at the time.

One thing I find really odd is how frequently total strangers ask if they know me or insist that they’ve met me before. It happens a lot, like once or twice a month. Does that happen to other people often?

    • Rebecca says...

That happens to me a lot, where total strangers ask if they know me. It just happened to me last Thursday. It always strikes me as odd as well!

    • Marie says...

This happens to me all the time. A couple times a week. People will try so hard to figure it out and I’m there insisting I just have a familiar face!

  109. Y’all NAILED the boys. Those lookalikes are perfect. I’m told I look like the Olsen twins. Frequently. So crazy.

  110. blg says...

I will second the jane birkin comment. i love her style. jane reminds me of your mom as a young mom too. I have gotten mostly one over the years, at first after fried green tomatoes and then a lot after weeds: mary louise parker! I always tell people the same thing: I have a friend who looks exactly like her! Bye Jane!

  111. Kate says...

Too funny! I’ve been told Anne Hathaway especially when she has bangs in The Devil Wears Prada which I take as a compliment!

  112. Heather says...

Christina Applegate! Which I am fine with.

The Michelle Williams thing is dead on and so cute and funny!!

  113. Megan says...

Anton’s is too funny!! I always get Mary Louise Parker even when I was in high school but I’ve never seen it.

  114. I’ve never been told I look like anyone, besides a very drunk man at 1am on the subway told me I looked like taylor swift (this was a few years ago when it seemed that she was biggest icon with non-stop red lips.. and I had on red lipstick). I do not look like taylor swift.

on another note, I listened to the leonard lopate show on NPR at lunchtime and stumbled upon your sister’s interview!! makes me want to read the book even more ;)

  115. Sam says...

Leelee Sobieski and Robin Wright (when she was about to jump from the hotel balcony in Forrest Gump, to be horrifically specific).

    Totally see the Toby/Agyness similarities!

    • I get Leelee too, I even commented below! Too funny. I wonder if we actually look alike!

  116. Molly says...

This is so fun! I get Vera Farmiga a lot – probably has to do with the blue eyes, but I can see it too. My husband thinks he looks like Ryan Gosling – I’ll let him have it ;)

  117. Sarah B says...

During college, aka the days of tanning beds and ridiculously blonde hair, I was often told I look like Kristin Cavallari (from MTV the Hills) and Ashley Tisdale (HS Musical). Now, nearly 6 years out of college, I’m often told I remind people of Kristin Wiig. I think it’s because of my obnoxious facial expressions and love for the Target Lady, rather than truly looking like her. Who knows!

  118. Elizabeth says...

In my pre-children days (aka skinnier and well-rested days) a few people said that I looked like Scarlett Johanssen. That was so flattering!

Toby and Anton really do resemble these pretty ladies!

  119. Leigh says...

People have actually stopped me on the street and asked if I was related to Christina Applegate. It’s funny, when she has a new movie or a show coming out and is making the rounds on talk shows and magazines, people will comment on it multiple times per week/month.
Them: ‘Do you know who you look SO much like?’
Me: ‘Let me guess….. Christina Applegate.’
Them: ‘Yes! Do you get that a lot?’
Me: ‘Yes, 3 times this week actually.’

It’s a nice compliment so I enjoy it!

I think you look a lot like Amanda Peet! And I think Caroline looks like Audrey Hepburn!

  120. Lisa says...

I get Eva Green a lot, and Alexis Bledel. Particularly Alexis Bledel as Rory in Gilmore Girls, based on personality and looks.
What was weird was I recently re-watched it and thought that a young Rory reminds me a lot of my niece in terms of looks, even though I wouldn’t say my niece and I look that similar, though maybe in time we will?

Oh yes, and Kirsten Dunst (pre-dental work) and I are teeth twins. What a claim to fame …

  121. Asia says...

    I’ve gotten… Dave Grohl. :(

Someone pointed out my youngest looks a bit like Kiernan Shipka, which I think is a much more flattering comparison.

  122. Libba says...

There is actually an app (of course there is…) which let’s you see which celebrities a computer thinks you look like. It’s called something catchy like Face Doppelganged Scanner. This article reminded me of its existence so I just downloaded it and had a go. Let’s just say there is not enough wine in the world to make this evening better…

  123. Tina says...

Thank you for the laugh… really needed it after Bowie and all. I don’t think I have one but I like to bust my husband’s chops because he looks exactly like Rachel Maddow with her glasses on… it’s uncanny

  124. I wish someone could tell me who my Doppelganger was. I find it really hard to describe my own face/body and literally rely on other people telling me what I look like! Ha!

  125. haha, I love the matching bang swoops too. My boyfriend looked like Jason Derulo when we first started dating and now he jokes about looking like the Nutty Professor. Our daughter looks like North West (more so when they were babies, but they still look alike). It’s harder to see a doppleganger for myself, but my mom always told me I looked like I could be a young Goldie Hawn when I was growing up.

  126. Rachel says...

When I was 6 I was a dead ringer for Shirley Temple.

  127. S says...

My favorite was when I was told I look like a young Robert Plant. We do have the same long curly hair and long face, so I try not to be offended that my doppleganger is a man. It will make a good Halloween costume some day.

  128. You are so spot on with your boys, it’s adorable!! Little boys always have such sweet little angelic faces! I have always heard Brooke Shields from people over the years, but it was HILARIOUS when she was on the cover of Home & Garden a couple months ago and our nanny told me that out 16 month old daughter kept pointing to it and saying “mama, mama, mama” over and over again! SO there you have it!

    xoxo http://www.touchofcurl.com

  129. Annabelle says...

At least three times a week someone will tell me I look like Milla Jovavich (Fifth Element/ Resident Evil). It’s interesting because most people start off with an apology, “Sorry I know you probably get this all the time but…” but I don’t mind at all! After all, my doppelganger is a badass.

    • And GORGEOUS!!! She’s such a babe.

  130. I get Sandra Bullock a lot! Over Christmas, I sat across the table from one of my aunt’s friends, who randomly pointed it out. “I think it’s the nose,” she said. Which made me feel great, because I’ve always disliked my nose, and I think Sandra’s is just fine!

  131. Michele says...

A friend of mine met a guy in a bar and told him that he looked familiar to her. Finally, he said “It’s the dentist from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. That’s who I look like and why I am familiar. I get it all the time.” She verified the match and we still laugh about it every time we see the show!

  132. This is so funny! Toby TOTALLY looks like Agyness Deyn, haha! As a kid, my husband looked EXACTLY like Corey Feldman. It’s hysterical. I wish I could post a picture here to show you! We get our friends laughing every time with old Mike vs. old Corey photos.
I’ve been told I look like Leelee Sobieski… I’ll take it!

  133. Ashley says...

My husband looks exactly like Russian figure skater Evgeni Pluskenko. I wish I could post photos because it’s frightening how much so.

  134. Gina says...

Yes! I am laughing so hard at the boys’ dopplegangers! Too perfect!

  135. katie says...

Haha! Cracks me up that both of your boys’ doppelgängers are such pretty ladies :)

  136. I’ve gotten Sarah chalke… Soleil moonfry when she was punky Brewster and Tara Reid … Eek

  137. Sirena says...

I feel sad about the comparison now but we’ve always called our son Enzo “baby Jon Snow” – the resemblance between Enzo and Kit Harington is spot on! We also have a friend who is a clone of the character from Despicable Me, it’s uncanny!

And I second the Joanna-Jane Birkin resemblance :-) it’s there!

  138. Jenn says...

When I worked in an elementary school a four year old came up to me, hand on hip, and said “I seen you on TV!” I looked at her, confused. “She thinks you are Ellen.” Cracked me up.
Another girl in a college class of mine told me that for weeks she was sure I was an actress from Some Kind of Wonderful and she could not figure out what I was doing at Auburn (she thought I was Maddie Corman).

  139. I can definitely see Hilary Swank as your doppelgänger! I’ve had many over the years but mostly Jessica Alba (maybe this was just a pick up line?! Way too flattering) although I definitely don’t have her lips, and Rose Byrne. I love when someone tells me I look like Rose, but my sister gets it more often.

  140. Jill says...

When I was in college, I had several people tell me I look like Jessica Simpson. I also had a few people tell me I look like Anne Hathaway. I always took it as a compliment. My son looks like a mini Bruno Mars.

  141. That’s too funny! I definitely see the resemblance for both of those.

I’ve gotten Britney Spears (in her young, Hit Me Baby One More Time era), Jennifer Love Hewitt, Colbie Callait and more recently, Blake Lively. And when I think about those ladies, none of them look alike. I think they are all a bit of a stretch, but it’s always amusing when people tell me that.

I always find people who remind me of my husband, including Russell Crowe, Shia Lebouf and Joseph Gordon Levitt. When I looked at what makes them similar, it’s that they all have puppy dog eyes that turn down on the outside, just like my hubby. He also gets Mark Walhberg and Adam Levine all the time which I find hilarious (they look nothing alike).

  142. Jocelyn says...

YES to Agyness Dean! I’ve always thought that! Toby is even more gorgeous though. Xxx

  143. I don’t think either of my boys look like anyone famous. At least not yet . My husband and I play this game all the time, though…identifying who would play people in the movies. Mine are pretty flattering – Keira Knightly (I’m not nearly as tall and thin, but hey I’ll take it!) and Natalie Portman. Ben Affleck could play my husband in a movie. :-)

  144. Sammie Ellwood says...

Wow Toby TOTALLY looks like Agyness Deyn! So adorable!!

  145. This is hilarious, and so accurate! I love that little Anton even has the same bangs swoop! I look like Jennifer Love Hewitt. As we get older, our looks are diverging more and more, but there was a time where seeing images of her made me uncomfortable because we looked so alike! My son looks EXACTLY like Macaulay Culkin in his “Home Alone” days…hopefully his life is happier though. He also looks remarkably like Cindy Lou Who in the Grinch cartoon, which makes me laugh because I said he looked lie a Who in his ultrasound picture. My husband looks like a cross between Justin Timberlake and Bruce Willis, but with a beard. I can’t think of one for my daughter though! I guess she’s a snowflake!!

  146. Lauren says...

You’ve always reminded me of Jane Birkin! I think your easy-going style has a lot to do with it.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

oh my gosh, i’m going to frame this comment on my desk :)

    • allie says...

      yes!! exactly!

    • I wholeheartedly agree!

    • I love and agree with that, and I LOVE Joanna’s response LOL!
