Have a Lovely Weekend.

Have a Lovely Weekend

What are your plans for the weekend? We’re having a picnic with friends in Prospect Park tomorrow. (What are your go-to picnic foods? I’m thinking cheese, a baguette and grapes?) Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, and here are a few fun links from around the web…

This AirBnB parody made me laugh.

The small, happy life.

What a pretty summer dress.

The difference between living in New York and San Francisco.

Love these photos of famous people doing their thing.

A very Murray Christmas!

Such a gorgeous gold wedding gown.

A dinner trick.

Would you have a decluttering party?

These optical illusions blew my mind. (The black-and-white checkerboard, what?)

Caroline’s secret to the perfect cup of coffee.

Whoa, the tourist attraction Escape the Room sounds like my worst nightmare.

Made me laugh.

This new documentary looks great.

Amy Schumer gets real on the Bachelorette. (“JJ’s a sweetheart… He’s just missing charisma and humility and a sense of humor.”)

P.S. Happy 30th Birthday, Liz! xoxo

Dior is THE MOST divine and uplifting documentary – I laughed. I cried. I swooned. I re-watched it n a long haul flight. Make sure you see it – it is truly gorgeous. Now I want to see it again!

  4. Jo Chan Smith says...

Thanks for a lovely round-up post! I’m now on the hunt to watch Dior and I, oh my goodness that looks fab! I wouldn’t have heard of it otherwise, so a million thanks!
And love the article on the small life. I’d like to think I’ve been living my life this way for a few years now. I’m so thankful I’ve been able to change by values – this really is the only way to be contented.

  5. The AirBnB video is great. It’s just like the commercials for it on television. Thanks for some great links.

  6. Laura C says...

I’m still trying to understand the neverending chocolate bar!!
Have a nice picnic, we had a birthday party and a wedding today!

  7. Anne says...

This Friday’s round-up is extra fun! I’m crazy about that gold wedding dress, what a gorgeous wedding

I always bring Pimms to picnics – it’s so summery and refreshing (mix 1 part Pimms to 2-3 parts ginger ale and throw in some fresh fruit!)

  8. I love/hate that NYC vs San Fran link because it’s so brutally honest! I love NYC but in a comparison like that… it really accentuates the crazy of this city.

  10. Sarah says...

Last weekend, we went for a 10-mile hike south of SF with friends and had dates stuffed with a soft blue cheese. I’d totally recommend it for picnic fare. SO good. xo

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      sounds AMAZING. thank you.

  11. Sarah says...

Last weekend, we went on a 10-mile hike south of SF with friends and had dates stuffed with a soft blue cheese. I would totally recommend it for picnic fare. SO good. xo

  12. Ooh, LOVE escape rooms! We’ve done Escape Maze (http://www.escapemaze.com/) and we’re going back again to do one of their other rooms. It’s SO much fun — and way less scary than I thought it would be!

  13. Kat Petersen says...

I keep thinking the same thing about Escape the Room….so much pressure and anxiety! How is this fun ?!? I’m going to go to the beach instead :)

  14. When I lived in France we would often bring a baguette and some stinky camembert to picnics, plus some mashed up avocado with a squeeze of lemon. It’s a delicious combo :)

  15. Jean says...

I just about died of laughter reading the Onion article. Reminds me of my own mother when we take road trips.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

“If you’re hungry, you can have one of the apples your mom brought.”

  16. That wedding is absolutely gorgeous! I love that it’s becoming more and more acceptable to wear something other than white. It kind of makes me wish I would have tried something like that.

  17. Lisa says...

I wish that Daily Beast article mentioned that the Room Escape and variations of it have actually been popular for a long time now in many different cities across the US….it’s not just a NY thing

  18. Lindsay says...

Actually, the secret to the perfect cup of coffee is an aero press. :)

    • Mindie says...

      I agree!!

  19. We did “Escape the Space” for a bachelorette party last weekend in Athens, GA! It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be ;) Oh, and we escaped with three minutes remaining!!

  20. Courtney E says...

Hand pies for picnics! Puff pastry, jam, egg wash, done!

  21. The optical illusions — yes! I LOVE that stuff. One of those dragons actually showed up in our office recently. Now I’m tempted to recreate the illusion in real life. As for your picnic foods – that’s exactly what I would bring. Enjoy!

  22. Amy Lauree says...

Amy Schumer made my day in that clip. She is so hilarious in an effortless way and seems pretty fearless! “He would be a pretty cool guy if he stops being such a turd”. Too funny!

  23. Lauren says...

I just saw “Dior & I” last weekend. It was the very most best. So beautiful, interesting, and SO moving. Highly, highly recommend.

    • Coralie says...

I totally agree, I loved it!!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      can’t wait to see it!

  24. Lori says...

We have an Escape the Room in Philadelphia too! A few months ago a group of us (10 people) tried and failed! It’s actually pretty fun, and surprisingly very difficult. We only have one theme going at a time here in Philly, but look forward to the next one coming out to give that a try, and hopefully solve it!

  25. The “Small Life” article actually made me tear up. I have never been career driven, always finding my relationships and hobbies to be the most satisfying part of my life. It’s nice to be reminded, especially now when most of my friends are getting their Masters or great new jobs, that that sort of life isn’t for everyone. Great roundup as usual Joanna!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      it’s gorgeous!!!

    • Ingrid says...

Perfect dress! Love the red bouquet with it too…

    • Gabriella says...

What a stunning bride you were!

  26. Julia says...

I laughed out loud reading the SF vs. NYC piece. Pretty spot on! Miss you! x

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      miss you too!

  27. thanks for posting the Chemex! It was a much needed reminder that I needed to buy another! I accidentally broke ours a few weeks ago reaching for spices in the cabinet above it. I’m short and my tip-toes failed me and boom-clack-crash, it shattered to pieces. I’ve definitely been missing my morning “cup of Jo”!

  28. katie says...

My gals and I do the clutter exchange all the time – we call it a Naked Lady party, since you basically end up walking around in your underwear :) It’s so funny to see your friends wearing your clothes even years later!

  29. Madie says...

That quote by Amy Schumer was hands-down the best moment of The Bachelorette so far. I love funny women who tell it like it is… their way of making it humorous gives them a pass, somehow, to tell the truth! I wish there was a way to watch the whole season with her commentary in my ear… :)

  30. Hi Joanna…..for your picnic needs tomorrow try this service called Perfect Picnic NYC (perfectpicnicnyc.com). I read an article about the owner and the company in MORE magazine and kept it in my favorites. I love the concept! According to the website, orders must be placed by 10pm the day before. I hope this helps. If you use the service let us know!

  31. Taylor says...

The decluttering party is such a great idea! I had a close friend help me do my first capsule wardrobe (www.un-fancy.com) and it was so nice to have someone give me advice and push me to part with stuff I was hanging on to.

In college it was so fun to go through my roommate’s giveaway pile…it really does feel like free shopping! I’d love to do this now that my friends are past their college wardrobe fads :).

  32. Emily says...

Thank you for sharing the “The difference between living in New York and San Francisco” link! My sister is moving from NYC to San Francisco this summer and I think it will make her smile.

  33. That AirBnB parody is so funny!

  34. Beth says...

My favorite picnic combo is a baguette with goat cheese, proscuitto, fig spread, and arugula. It’s easy and delicious.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      that sounds amazing, thank you!

  35. I love that that Times article, particularly what one man said: “…if there is one thing that keeps me focused, it’s the garden. Lots of plants died during the harsh winter, but, amazingly, the clematises and the roses are back, and lettuce, spinach and tomatoes are thriving in the new greenhouse.” How lovely to so directly experience the cyclical nature of things.

Also, Bill Murray + Sofia together again at last?! How great is that!
